A New Beginning!

Where to begin?  When exactly did this new adventure, serving in the Philippine Cavite Mission, begin?  Officially, I suppose, it began on June 29, 2016, the day President Douglas C. Tye handed over the phone to President Aaron B. Speirs. We have heard it said that your tenure as Mission President begins when you get the phone.  But this adventure really began several months ago.

The Call

On October 5, 2015, the day after General Conference, Aaron received a call from the office of Elder Neil L. Andersen.  To his question, "You mean Elder Neil L. Andersen of the Quorum of the Twelve?"  They responded, "We get that all the time."  An interview was set up for Thursday, October 8th for Aaron and I to visit with Elder Andersen via internet.

Strangely, we both felt surprisingly calm, until the hour arrived.  Aaron arrived home from work to find me pacing the floor in nervous anticipation. He calmed me with a sweet prayer and encouraging words, and then we both paced the floor.

At the appointed hour, Elder Andersen popped on our screen with a big smile.  He informed us that the purpose of this visit was not to extend a calling, but to get to know us.  Elder Andersen was delightful, comfortable and loving.  He closed our visit by stating that he was going to recommend to the First Presidency that Aaron be called as a Mission President.

President Dieter F. Ucthdorf

Three weeks later we visited with President Dieter F. Uchtdorf who extended the call to Aaron to be a Mission President.  I was called to serve as a Full-Time Missionary, and companion to Aaron, hereafter known as President Speirs.

So began our new adventure!  We sold our home in Bakersfield, California.  President Speirs retired from Aera Energy after 31 years of employment, and we left everything and everyone behind to come to the Philippines.  We are extremely thankful for this opportunity to serve as Missionaries in the beautiful Philippines with valiant, righteous Elders and Sisters.  Here's to new beginnings.

Full-Time Missionaries!

I have always looked forward to the day when I would serve as a full-time missionary with my husband.  After President Uchtdorf extended our call, I turned to Aaron, gave him a high five, and exclaimed, "I am a full-time missionary!"

Set- Apart

June 10, 2016

It is a remarkable experience to be in the presence of men we sustain as Prophet, Seer, and Revelators.  Our family meet with Elder Neil Andersen at the the Church Administration Office.  He set Aaron apart as the President of the Philippine Cavite Mission.  Elder Michael Teh, a member of the Quorum of the Seventy and a Filipino native, set me apart as a full-time missionary and companion to President Speirs.
